Porcelain Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are placed at the site of a lost or damaged tooth to restore the tooth’s appearance and function. All of our dental crowns are built from porcelain because of the material’s natural appearance and great functionality. We use dental crowns in many situations, such as:
- Protecting weakened teeth
- Root canal recovery
- Replacing lost teeth
- Improving functionality of teeth
- Aesthetically improving one’s smile
- Supporting misshapen or repaired teeth
A patient will be required to make two visits to our office to have a custom dental crown installed. The process starts by shaving off part of the affected tooth to accommodate for the crown. If needed, a dental implant will be installed to replace a lost tooth. Next, an impression of the patient’s mouth is taken. This allows a custom crown to be created in a dental laboratory.
The first visit will end with patient being fitted with a temporary crown until their permanent one is ready. When the patient returns for their second visit, the temporary restoration will be taken out, and the permanent custom crown will be applied. The patient will be provided with any special instructions regarding proper care of their new dental crown.
Also known as partial dentures, dental bridges are used when a patient is missing multiple teeth. Dental bridges are designed to look like healthy, natural teeth, and they fill gaps created by teeth that are missing. Just like our dental crowns, our bridges are constructed from porcelain because of the natural appearance and superb functionality of the material. Dental bridges can be either permanently fixed within the mouth or removable for easy cleaning.
Fixed bridges can be attached in one of two ways. They are either placed directly on top of supporting teeth in the form of multiple dental crowns, or they are bonded to adjacent supporting teeth. Fixed bridges cannot be removed by the user once they are installed. Removable bridges use metal clasps or precision attachments to remain securely in place even while talking or eating. When it’s time for cleaning, removable bridges can easily be taken out of the mouth by the user.
